Commercial building energy audit

Stourbridge Glass Museum

Helping a museum tackle an £80,000 energy crisis

Stourbridge Glass Museum faced severe financial pressure after annual energy costs increased from around £20,000 to approximately £80,000.

A building energy audit found that the museum already had efficient air-source heat pumps, but inaccessible controls, unsuitable settings and extensive use of direct-electric heaters were preventing them from operating effectively.

Key finding The museum used almost as much electricity while closed as it did while open.

Long-term estate energy management

Blenheim Palace

From a building audit to estate-wide energy and decarbonisation support

What began with a building energy audit developed into a long-term technical relationship covering approximately 200 meters, ESOS, overnight energy use, renewable energy and carbon planning.

The work extended beyond the Palace to offices, visitor facilities, pleasure gardens, farmland, associated businesses and parts of the construction supply chain.

Key finding Event-related heating-control changes had not been reset, leaving parts of the estate heated unnecessarily.

Commercial office energy audit

The Blade, Reading

Finding further savings in an already efficient commercial office

The Blade is a 13,250 m² commercial office building in central Reading that was already performing below common energy benchmarks.

The audit focused on identifying further operational savings and developing a practical route towards lower-carbon heating without recommending unnecessary major replacement.

Key finding Approximately 41% of electricity use occurred outside the assumed occupied period of 8am to 6pm.
